MLO Reflective Narrative:
The courses that I took to satisfy the major learning outcome 1 such as JAPN 301, JAPN 302, and JAPN 304 were courses taught in Japanese. These courses encouraged me to use Japanese throughout the class and semester while teaching me various aspects of the Japanese language. For example, in JAPN 304 we were introduced to translation and interpretation (JAPN 304 Final). We learned skills such as scanning, skimming, site translation, and shadowing. We were encouraged to use T.A.L.K (Target Language, Accuracy,Listening, Kind) during the entirety of the course which helped me further expand on my Japanese language skills. In JAPN 301 students learn about Japanese grammar and culture. This course was taught in Japanese and students were encouraged to speak only in the target language. Through the use of worksheets and presentations the students gained knowledge and furthered their skills of Japanese.
